Building Your Roadmap Forward
Is your organization in need of a strategic plan, an update to an existing one, or a clearer roadmap forward?
Strategic planning is one of the most impactful investments an organization can make, but many of us don’t have the time or budget for a full consultant-led process.
West Marin Fund is offering a no-cost, two-part Do-It-Yourself Strategic Planning Workshop series this November for nonprofit teams and board members, plus an optional tailored coaching session to help you put the tools into action. Walk away with resources and templates you can use now, and in the future, to create a strategic roadmap for your organization while increasing clarity, alignment, and impact.
This is an experiential, interactive series: teams apply the tools to their own organization in real time, rather than sitting through a lecture. It’s open to organizations at any stage, whether you’re starting from scratch, refreshing an existing plan, or moving into implementation.

Session 1 – Overview
Building the Foundation
This session lays the groundwork for your planning process. By the end, your team will walk away with:
- A clear roadmap for the strategic planning process
- mission and vision alignment check to ground your priorities
- An organizational self-assessment of current strengths and gaps across Operations, Organizational Culture, Programs, and Resource Development
- A template for engaging stakeholders and gathering the right input
- A list of additional information to consider before setting priorities
Session 2 – Overview
From Priorities to an Actionable Plan
This session turns your priorities into a working plan. By the end, your team will walk away with:
- A method for identifying and crafting organizational “North Star” goals
- Clarity on the distinction between goals, outcomes, and outputs
- Measurable, equitable, and meaningful outcomes tied to each goal
- Strategies and best practices for implementation and tracking
- Awareness of common strategic planning pitfalls, and how to avoid them
Follow-Up Coaching
Every participating organization is eligible for individualized follow-up coaching at no cost, available November 2026 through February 2027, to help apply what you’ve learned in the workshop. Coaching can be one-on-one or with a team from your organization. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive a short intake form to help us tailor the session to your needs.
Logistics
- Two 2-hour sessions: November 6 and 20, 10 am – 12 pm, via Zoom
- Please plan to attend both sessions. If you need to miss one, send a team member in your place and we’ll share materials.
- Experiential and interactive: teams apply tools to their own organization in real time
- Open to organizations at any stage
- Staff and board members are encouraged to attend together, so don’t forget your board
- All worksheets, templates, and tools provided, including electronic versions to use after the series
